As part of its holistic design philosophy, MDL has strived to achieve a sort of harmony between the exterior and interior elements of its designs, aiming to make them complement rather than compete. As such, MDL views the two not as different disciplines, but a unified solution to a client’s specifications.
One such exception to this is the MDL’s exclusively interior design-focused project for the now-defunct Restaurant Gusto, whose design was marked by spatial moulding. Although the location was squarish, MDL opted to give it a more sensual, eye-catching look by introducing a large, rounded bar, a set of alcoves delineated by curvilinear screens, and a ceiling feature that appeared as a series of plexiglass ribbons that gently zigged and zagged across the restaurant’s length.
