Perhaps the biggest opportunity yet for MDL to provide a customised package of art works for a particular house has been the Villa Otto (2015). The house itself in its form and plan repeatedly abstracts the lucky number 8 or infinity. This is picked up by Lotus, which stands in a pond at the entry to the house. The sculpture’s organic shape suggests natural forms, but uses what Massimo calls “counter-intuitive materials”, namely stainless steel and glass. At its core is a glass bowl, suggesting a fertile pod, which is enclosed by stainless steel ‘petals’.
This sculpture sits in a pond at the entrance of Villa Otto. The form suggests the auspicious number 8, but also mimics nature but using counter-intuitive materials with stainless steel ‘petals’ and a glass bowl at the core.
